Whether it's through a comforting phone call or guiding someone to the right support services, your involvement can be a beacon of hope.

We offer various volunteer roles, including specialist roles, each designed to provide emotional support and practical assistance to women awaiting further help. These roles typically require a commitment of 2–4 hours per week, with supportive supervision sessions held quarterly.

By joining our team, you become part of a compassionate community dedicated to empowering women and fostering connections that lead to lasting change.

Specialist Volunteer roles available

If you are interested in a specialist role to help further our mission, below are a list of what is currently available (these are in addition to our more standard volunteer positions).

  • At My Sisters’ House Women’s Centre (MSH), we create real, lasting change for the women and communities we serve every day.

Our trustees form the backbone of the charity. As a new trustee, you would join an inspiring team of women committed to making a difference and driving meaningful change.

Each trustee brings valuable experience, insight, and expertise, helping to guide and support our work. Together, our dedicated staff and volunteers empower women to live courageously - knowing their worth and free from abuse, violence, and fear.

We are incredibly proud of the impact we make. If you share our passion and want to be part of our journey, we would love to hear from you.

We remain committed to creating a strong skillset at Board level and would be particularly interested in women with expertise in the following areas: HR, Legal, Fundraising, Communications and Marketing, Health and Safety, and Premises Management.

Becoming a trustee is a rewarding but important commitment. The MSH Board meets quarterly in the evening, with meetings lasting up to two hours. Trustees are expected to review Board papers in advance and come prepared for discussion and decision-making. In addition, each trustee is asked to join one of our MSH Committees, which meet every six weeks, usually during the day, for a maximum of two hours.

Please take a look at the accompanying role description and information. If you would like to find out more or apply, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Avril Robinson, Chief Executive, by emailing her at avril.robinson@mysistershouse.info or calling her on 01243 697800.

  • Support women in your community with a friendly voice and a listening ear.

Are you a kind and empathetic person who enjoys making meaningful connections? Could you spare a few hours each week to offer emotional support to women waiting for financial guidance?

We’re looking for warm-hearted, reliable volunteers to join our team as Finance Wellbeing Callers. In this rewarding role, you’ll make gentle and compassionate check-in calls to clients who are currently on our Finance team’s waiting list. Your calls will help these women feel seen, heard, and less alone while they wait for further support.

To feel confident in this role, you’ll need a calm and caring telephone manner, along with a good level of IT literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. You should have a good eye for detail and be able to work well on your own, while also feeling part of a supportive team. Strong communication skills—both spoken and written—are important, as is a clear understanding of confidentiality. Some awareness of safeguarding would be beneficial, though we can offer guidance if you're new to this area. Because some conversations may touch on difficult experiences, personal resilience will also be important.

We ask volunteers to give between 2 to 4 hours per week, Monday to Friday, ideally between 9:00am and 3:00pm. You’ll also be invited to attend supportive supervision sessions four times a year to help you feel connected and supported in your role.

This is a truly meaningful opportunity for anyone who wants to give back, offer a lifeline of kindness to local women, and be part of a compassionate and welcoming team.

  • Be a voice of comfort, care and hope to women who need someone to talk to.

Could you offer a listening ear and a kind heart to women going through some of the most difficult times in their lives?

We’re looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to join our team as Domestic Abuse Wellbeing Callers. In this vital role, you’ll be making regular check-in calls to women affected by domestic abuse, offering emotional support, reassurance, and a safe, non-judgemental space to talk while they wait for further help.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have a calm, caring and supportive telephone manner. You’ll be confident using IT, including Microsoft Office programmes like Word and Excel, and able to pay close attention to detail. While you’ll work independently, you’ll also be part of a warm, supportive team who share your commitment to helping others.

Strong communication skills are key – both written and spoken – and it’s important that you understand the need for confidentiality. Some safeguarding knowledge would be helpful, though we can support you with training if needed. Just as importantly, you’ll need a level of emotional resilience, as some of the conversations you have may be sensitive or challenging.

These calls can be a real lifeline for women who are feeling isolated, anxious, or afraid. By giving your time and showing up with kindness and care, you could make a lasting difference in someone’s life.

We’d love to welcome you to our volunteer team. Together, we can offer hope, connection and care to women in our community.

  • Be the first point of contact for women reaching out for help – your time can truly change lives.

Do you have a calm, caring nature and strong listening skills? Are you looking for a way to give back and support women in your community?

We’re looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to help us with triage calls for clients who are not currently experiencing domestic abuse. These initial conversations are a vital first step in helping women feel heard and ensuring they’re directed to the most appropriate support within our services.

To thrive in this role, you'll need to feel confident speaking to people on the phone and be able to communicate with kindness, clarity, and care. A good level of IT literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office will also be important, along with strong attention to detail.

You’ll be someone who can work well independently while also being part of a supportive and dedicated team. A solid understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding is essential, as some of the conversations may be emotionally challenging. We’re also looking for someone with the emotional resilience to offer calm, steady support during difficult moments.

This role requires a time commitment of 2–4 hours each week, Monday to Friday, ideally between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Volunteers are also invited to attend four supervision sessions a year to support their wellbeing and continued learning.

If you want to be part of a welcoming, passionate team and make a real difference to women in your local area, we’d love to hear from you.
