What happens after I have been in touch?

Once you have contacted us, our First Response Team will arrange a triage appointment with you. This can be over the phone or a face-to-face meeting.

This appointment is to give us an understanding of the issues you are facing and to establish how we can help.

We will not judge you, we are here to listen and support you.

This is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger, you must call 999.

Who is the First Response Team?

Our First Response team is made up of compassionate and trained female staff.

We understand the complexities of domestic abuse and other disadvantages and are here to listen, assess your risk and will work with you to keep you safe – we don’t judge.

The team will listen to you and gain an understanding of your situation, whether you are experiencing current domestic abuse, have experienced domestic abuse in your past, or perhaps if you have faced other challenges in life.

We are here to support you

We work in a trauma-informed way and will never pressure you to make decisions or share things that you aren’t comfortable with.

We will focus on understanding, and responding to, the impact of your trauma. The aim is to create a therapeutic environment that promotes healing and avoids re-traumatisation.

We understand that this is your journey, and we’re here to support you with the decisions you choose to make.

When are the triage appointments & how long do they take?

The triage appointment can be a face-to-face appointment or a phone call.

The triage appointments are usually during the day, Monday to Friday, and take around 1 hour. However, additional appointments can be made to work around your schedule and availability. We can also arrange for evening appointments on Thursday evenings.

If you opt for a phone appointment, we will first ensure you’re in a position to be able to speak freely. We’re happy to work with you – if you’re unable to speak at certain times, we will avoid these.

Alternatively, you can come in for a face-to-face appointment, where you’ll be welcomed with a hot drink and a safe environment, where you can speak freely.

How else can your First Response Team help?

After your initial triage meeting/call, the team will then be able to recommend which of our domestic abuse services and holistic recovery programmes are best for you.

They can also help you to access foodbank vouchers, set up referrals to Little Bundles for clothes for children, and put you in touch with other charities who may be able to help you access essentials.

We can provide you with free toiletries and period products, which you can collect from our Bognor Regis or Chichester offices.
