Healthy Relationships & Boundary Course

The course is for anyone looking to have a better understanding of what a Healthy relationship looks like, as opposed to an unhealthy relationship.  

The Course

The course is designed to foster emotional, mental, and physical well-being in relationships. 

How is the course run?

It runs as a small peer to peer group and is very much led by the individual groups needs and is very flexible and adaptable. 

The group are encouraged to share their experiences, what relationships they find more of a struggle, and seek tips and advice from peers on ways that have helped them overcome these situations.

Course Aims

Have a better understanding of Self-Awareness and Self-Care:

Encouraging women to explore their values, needs, and desires in relationships.

Emphasising the importance of self-love, self-compassion, and personal well-being.

Teaching stress management techniques, mindfulness, and self-reflection to foster mental clarity and emotional balance.

Understanding Boundaries:

Defining what personal boundaries are and why they are essential for healthy relationships.

Exploring different types of boundaries (emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual).

Helping women identify their own boundaries and how to recognise when they are being violated.

Setting and Communicating Boundaries:

Teaching practical strategies for assertively setting boundaries without guilt or fear.

conversations in different contexts (family, friendships, romantic relationships, work).

Discussing how to handle pushback or resistance when boundaries are challenged.

Healthy Communication Skills:

Developing effective communication techniques such as active listening, non-violent communication, and expressing needs and feelings clearly in a polite and assertive way.

Navigating difficult conversations with empathy, honesty, and respect.

Identifying Toxic Patterns:

Recognising signs of unhealthy or toxic relationships (e.g., emotional manipulation, gaslighting, controlling behaviour).

Understanding the dynamics of co-dependency, and people-pleasing behaviours.

Discussing the importance of emotional independence and mutual respect in relationships.

Emotional Intelligence:

Building emotional awareness and understanding of how emotions impact interactions.

Learning to regulate emotions and handle conflict constructively.

Developing empathy and compassion for oneself and others.

Empowerment and Personal Growth:

Encouraging women to take responsibility for their own happiness and personal growth within relationships.

Discussing how to create and maintain relationships that are supportive, nurturing, and mutually respectful.

Promoting self-empowerment through boundary setting, and building self-confidence.

Course Content:

The course runs for 5 sessions once a week and is facilitated by our experienced Complex Needs worker and her volunteer.  The course content is as follows: -

Session 1 – Introduction, getting to know each other and setting out what the course will cover.

Session 2 – Assertiveness and setting boundaries, all the various ways we can think about setting a boundary that helps support us and our needs.

Session 3 – Co-dependency and trauma bonding, how our childhood experiences can impact us, societies expectations from us.

Session 4 – Recognising healthy relationships and unhealthy relationships, gaslighting and controlling relationships.

Session 5 – Looking at individual comfort zones, setting healthy boundaries for the future, dealing with problems.
