Meet Katie: A day in the life…
Well, first things first: COFFEEEEE.
I have been in this role for 20 months, starting when lockdown hit. I felt honoured to be placed in this role as it is the window to our centre.
I have been with My Sisters’ House for over 3 years now, I was drawn to the organisation as I had a childhood that was coloured with domestic abuse and domestic violence. The youngest child of five, I thought it was normal to experience this within my family home. I started off volunteering for MSH, giving my time to support the Step Forward team. I have also worked on my own journey through self-development. I feel I will always be on this journey, as there is always something new to learn.
I am a positive person and I love to give out positive messages and to feed the soul with love and feel-good Energy. So the social media role was a wonderful gift as I could pop out authentic heartfelt messages to feed our ladies’ souls on a daily basis.
The posts I choose very carefully, I search through the socials and the internet to find the right quotes and images every day. I also make posts through the design software Canva if the quote is right but the image is wrong. I pre-schedule around 55 posts a week over the social platforms Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. I also recommend books and films to our clients, and different articles, for example the parenting articles. I feel like a journalist at times, excitingly trawling through google to find the right article that will place itself well on our socials and be informative for our clients. There are also the daily tweaks that are needed in the high-paced environment at MSH!
Part of my job role is interacting with our ladies through our social media, I reply to all messages and comments. This is important to me as I feel that when a lady has taken the time to engage with us it’s right for them to feel heard - and they are heard, every like and comment is greatly appreciated.
I enjoy engaging with my colleagues as they are so unique and multi-talented with hearts of gold. I like to video-showcase them on our platforms - this is not always easy for them to do as it is definitely out of their comfort zone for most of them.
I am also studying an Instagram course. Insta is such a layered social platform, it is good to know what is new and how to use all the features, Insta keeps me on my toes as there are different features being added regularly.
I am looking forward to my role developing further as I will be popping over to our new Chichester Hub to speak with the wonderful professionals that have helped shape and decorate our new space. Such as Kieran who donated his time to paint our Chichester Hub frontage and has 9.5K engagements on our Facebook page, He said he had ladies saying hello to him that he didn’t know, all from the exposure on our social media, and he was pleased that he also received new leads from other charities and companies wanting him to work for them.
As you can probably tell I love my social media position at My Sisters’ House, I feel myself lost in my creative flow which is a wonderful place to be.
My journey with MSH has been life-changing.
And I’m looking forward to connecting with you via our socials – do come and say, “Hello!”
