With Heartfelt Thanks: Landmark Fundraising Opportunity for My Sisters' House
This year’s Markel Magnolia Cup was a race like no other, and for My Sisters' House Women’s Centre, it was a fundraising milestone. Held at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, the all-female charity race raised a phenomenal £313,172.14, marking one of the largest single fundraising events for our organisation in the past decade.
A huge congratulations to Lizzie Jelfs, the Australian racing media personality who clinched victory, as well as the incredible lineup of other riders who shared the track with her: Amy Moring, Harriet Hemmings, Aamilah Aswat, Matilda Butcher, Husna Aswat, Sophie Pumfrett, Katherine Lindsay, Lauren Price, Eleanor Franchitti, Ellen Barber, and Rebecca Haryett. These fearless women dedicated months to training, and their passion and commitment were truly inspiring.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Goodwood Racecourse, title sponsor Markel, and the generous horse sponsors, trainers, and owners who made this event possible. Special thanks go to Rene Moshi Macdonald of Lisou for designing the vibrant jockey silks, which perfectly captured the spirit of empowerment and unity.
For us at My Sisters’ House, this event means so much more than a single day of excitement—it’s an opportunity to make a lasting difference. With these funds, we will be able to expand our support services for women facing abuse, poverty, and other challenges across the Arun and Chichester districts. Every penny raised will go toward empowering women to build healthier, brighter futures.
Reflecting on this milestone, Avril Robinson, Acting CEO of My Sisters' House, shared her thoughts: “Being the chosen charity for the Markel Magnolia Cup has been a transformative opportunity for us. As a local charity, these funds will allow us to continue providing free, life-changing services to women in our community. We’re inspired by the all-female line-up of jockeys who showed such dedication and grit to be part of this event. Their courage is a reminder to women everywhere that we can achieve great things when we come together.”
Thank you to everyone involved in making this race a reality. With your support, My Sisters’ House is poised to make an even greater impact, offering women in our community the resources they need to thrive.
