Meeting my nemesis

Jo faces an old foe - the 16-mile run

A comforting snuggle from Buddy

Training: Week 8

Distance: 16 miles

Time until Marathon: 5 weeks

This week has all been about facing my ‘nemesis’ - THE 16 MILER!

I think I had every emotion on this run.

I turned around at 6.5 miles because I just couldn’t go any further.

Walked for a portion of it (the first time I have ever done this).

And then when I got back to my door at 13 miles, I made myself carry on past my house to get to 16 miles!

When I finally got home I had a good old cry on the lovely Buddy.

It’s tough, but that’s okay

This week it was all in my mind. Physically I was in pretty good shape, which I am so grateful for.

My husband reminded me that ten years ago it was the 16-mile run that had me walking through the door in floods of tears declaring that I was NEVER going to be able to run a marathon.

So I have decided that 16 miles is just a really tough run for me in my marathon training and its all going to be OK.

It feels like it’s the moment when physically and emotionally there is a significant gear change from ‘long run’ to ‘really really long run’!

Keeping healthy

A few weeks ago I mentioned physio.

I have now seen the lovely (!!) Jane who has been manipulating me back to full health and it is starting to pay off. Hurray!

I am doing my exercises religiously (I promise!) and fingers crossed this will keep me injury free up to the marathon and beyond.

How to sponsor me

If you can, please make this all worthwhile and sponsor me! I cannot overstate the motivational impact this has. Literally every penny I raise will be spent supporting women, keeping women safe, helping them to rebuild their lives and thrive, not just survive.
